What should my skater wear to skating?

What do we do when we arrive for our session?

Please refer to FORMS & POLICIES.

What is a CSA approved helmet?

Please refer to FORMS & POLICIES.

Can I come onto the ice with my skater?

No.  There are Skate Canada Professional Coaches & Program Assistants on the ice at all times.  The coaches & assistants are trained to best assist your skater.  Should a parent come onto the ice, Skate Kingsville's insurance becomes void and puts all skaters & coaches at risk.

What should I expect during the first several weeks of CanSkate?

This depends on each individual skater.  Some flourish immediately while others may take several weeks to adapt to the environment.  Our coaches have many years of experience facilitating this program and we ask for your patience during the first several weeks of programming.

What do I do if my skater is crying on the ice?

When skaters are learning, there may be tears.  The coaches assess skater distress level and respond accordingly.  If your child is crying due to frustration as opposed to injury please wait for a coach to signal you before coming to the ice surface.

Where can I purchase skates?

Depending on your skater's level, skates can be purchased at stores that offer sporting goods.  For custom fitting, we recommend Brian's Source for Sports (scheduling appointments in advance is recommended).  Remember that skates do have limited lifetime and fit appropriately for your skater's size and skill.  Skating success starts with proper fitting skates.  Please refer to FORMS & POLICIES page.

How often should skates be sharpened?

Skates must be sharpened before your first skating session.  Brand new skates DO NOT come sharpened.  The frequency then depends on the skater's ability, care and hours logged on the ice.  Consult your preferred skate sharpener.  We recommend Brian's Source for Sports and Ben at the Kingsville Arena Skate Shop.

What is a Program Assistant (PA)?

Program Assistants are volunteer coaches who have participated in Skate Canada Programs.  They are trained to best assist skaters and the professional coaches at the start of the season.  Program Assistants cannot answer program related questions - their duty is to support the on ice programming.
